Sara French’s book work Soundhand was commissioned as a part of the exhibition Charrette Roulette: Language at the Art Gallery of Alberta, edited by Kathy Slade and Kay Higgins.
Sara French is Norman Eberstein, Reena Smith and Maria Marcolina. As these characters she performs inside and outside the gallery. French produces work of a performative nature that aims to subvert notions of surveillance, business and archiving. These works manifest as publications, sculptures, and drawings. French is a member of Hardcopy and she maintained a studio at the former Drawing Room. Her work has been presented across Canada in Vancouver, Toronto, Halifax, Winnipeg and in Shenzhen, China.
